Being Green…
July 2, 2009 | Filed Under Deployment, Eliza Dove, Eve, Judah, Life Stuff, Photos
You should see me right now… I look like a tornado. A red-headed tornado.
I spent all yesterday deep cleaning my new apartment and then all today unloading the truck, going up the stairs and down the stairs, up the stairs and down the stairs… Rinse and repeat about seventy-five times. Can I just say, my butt ought to look real good, real quick.
My new place is such a complete wreck. There is stuff everywhere! The bedroom is doing pretty good but that’s only because my Dad spent an hour and a half tonight regaling my children with wonderful, far-fetched stories while I worked my tail off getting it put together. Well, as much together as one can with no pillow cases, no second twin sheet, no comforters, and make-shift lace curtains! I had to laugh because it was such a mish-mash of stuff. No rhyme or reason, yet… it worked. And you know what? My kids could care less.
Even amidst all the moving and general hub-bub of our cah-razy life right now, we have carved out some very special times. We spent the last week at my in-laws in Pennsylvania and it was a God-send. I arrived beaten down, stressed to the max, exhausted, and very sad. I was completely refreshed by my time spent at their beautiful country home. The kids were in absolute Heaven. Because, among other wonderful things, my in-laws have grass. GRASS.
You know we came from the desert, right? We had dirt. Red dirt. And lots of wicked, evil prickers. And sand-spurs. But for the last week my kids have had green, lush, soft, beautiful grass.
And they have just eaten it up.
Eliza and Eve especially.
It has been so much fun for me to see the kids laying in the grass; rolling around, wiggling their toes in the green goodness…
Running, chasing each other, and wrestling.
Eliza enjoyed the dirt too. Apparently the dinner left on her face wasn’t going to be enough of a snack later that night. Chomping on a clod of dirt was the obvious next choice…
Judah did his part by helping “Bubba” with the mowing. My Father-in-law pastors a church and the property he is responsible for maintaining is expansive. Lots and lots of mowing, of which Judah was eager to help with whenever asked!
The kids and I are so thankful for the time we spent with “Nana” and “Bubba.” We are very happy that we have six months to live close by!
Tomorrow… garage saling.
I love Northerners and their garage sales. No offense intended but strictly by observation… Southern folk need to take garage sale lessons from us Yankees.
Rain… who cares. Haggling… heck yeah. Ending at four or five in the afternoon instead of noon… most definitely. Starting on Thursday and running through Saturday… Is there any other way?
I really enjoy garage saling in New York. And it’s a good thing I can go tomorrow since I have no dishes, cups, or silverware as of right now. This is a definite problem because I have kids who expect hot food on a plate with a fork to eat it with and a cup of water to wash it down.
I tell ya… they are so spoiled.

They have the same problem out here. While the sales on base are ok, they always close up shop around noon. People seem to use Craigslist for everything. Good luck with the hunt!

Ohhhh Grass! It is my fav thing when we go see family in the Rochester area. I used to walk to Highland park and roll down the hills in the grass just to get it alllll over me. Real green grass. Oh I miss real grass. I need to go north soon.

The pictures are beautiful, as always. What a lovely place to live. I bet it was very nice to be around greenery again. A milspouse friend of mine said that she didn’t mind Ft. Polk (bottom of the barrel for army posts)simply because it was green. She lived in vegas and was sick of dirt. I thought their sunsets were pretty darn amazing though.
Love the grass pics! Have fun garage saleing! Hope you find all good deals and pretty dishes!

Oh I love grass! I just love GREEN! I’m not sure how I’ll do if we ever end up in a climate that doesn’t allow for it.
Love that pic of Judah on the tractor with his grandpa. That’s sort of a tradition for my boys and my Dad too
Even in such a chaotic, difficult time there are such great memories being made…I’m so glad you were able to move up near your family through this deployment! I don’t know how I would have gotten through without that when Jason was gone.

We are getting rid of some stuff before we move…let me know what you need. If I have it…it’s yours- dead serious! I have plates, if you want them. There’s only 4 but they are big, green, and sturdy.
