Daniel Doing Desert Duty
July 15, 2009 | Filed Under Daniel, Deployment, Judah, Military Life, Photos
A couple of days ago, Daniel sent me these photos that a friend took! I was so excited to see pictures of him and his life. All of these photos are from a trip Daniel volunteered to be a part of. It was a trip a team of guys took to a remote base to fix some electric, plumbing, AC, etc. equipment. He didn’t know at the time he volunteered but this meant a couple of rides on a Black Hawk helicopter. I was so happy for him.
Reality is, we can’t be together right now; we can’t be sharing life… you know, doing the parenting, go to work, go to school, clean the house, mow the yard, change the oil, pay the bills, together thing. I want to walk away from this time with wonderful experiences and I want him to walk away from his deployment with wonderful experiences. That little trip he took provided a few of those great experiences for him. I know it was tough; he worked his tail off. And it was wicked hot and wicked dirty and very dangerous but he had a blast. That is all I want for him.
I do have to say, this shower sure leaves a lot to be desired.
I’ll take my porcelain tub any day of the week and twice on Sundays. Thanks.
Oh, and the scorpion… dear LORD that thing is terrifying to look at.
All in all, Daniel is doing good. He’s pretty tired all of the time; between the heat, the work, and school, he is going non-stop. But, he’s good. And he is happy to be doing his part.
I’ll post more photos as he sends them. He doesn’t have a camera yet but once I can send him one they will be more and often.

Hi Andrea! I’ve read your blog for quite some time now but have never really been a commenter. I just wanted to let you know that you played a part in my nephew’s third birthday party this past weekend.
My sister told me one of the party guests was allergic to milk and she was sad he wouldn’t be able to have any chocolate cake. That’s when I remembered your dairy/egg-free cake recipe. We tried it and it was so good! So good in fact that all the kids ended up eating it…and without frosting! Thanks for posting the recipe!
I hope this “B” week finds you well. Are you anywhere where you could go berry picking? That would be great!
I have a blog, too, but if you’re interested in reading, let me know and I’ll send you an invite. Have a great day!
It’s so nice that you get a glimpse of his life right now! (And I’m with you on the bathroom thing, LOL!)

Oh, I love this post. I don’t know why but I do. I guess because when I picture men going on deployment it is so different than this. I pray this time is blessed for you both, despite the time apart. May your reunion just be that much sweeter. Miss you, K.

My husband found a great little point and shoot at the exchange over there. He bought a pretty large memory card and came home with around 400 pictures.
And my hubby is happy to jump on any helicopter, any time. He loves to experience life.

Isn’t it awesome to get these glimpses into their lives? We have around 1500 photos from Q’s last deployment…all with a little Kodak Digital camera he got on post for about $100…I’ll take it. He looks like he’s in great spirits!!

I remember how I loved to see pics of Kevin over there, and how it made me feel. It still brings tears to my eyes!! But you’re right, good times CAN be had by both husband and wife, even though so many miles are between you!
