If You Do Say So Yourself….

July 17, 2009 | Filed Under Musings, Photos

I don’t have a lick of decorating sense in me. Not a lick.

For some people (my amazing mother-in-law) it seeps out of their pores. Their very touch is magical. They look at something, anything, and suddenly it is transformed into perfection.

Me? Not so much. So I subscribe to the theory that less is more. And if I can’t make something out of nothing, well then, I will accessorize the nothing. With flowers.

Flowers are my fall back. My fail-safe. If I can’t make something look good on it’s own I throw some fresh flowers at it.

And so we have my kitchen table….

A peaceful table

My great grandfather’s heavy dining room table, a handmade, vintage table cloth found at a garage sale for four dollars, my great-grandmother’s passed down Peter Pots vase, and some bright pink snapdragons.

All of that combined makes for a peaceful table.

And I comfort myself with the knowledge that even though I can’t decorate, I can cook. And bake. And I have an overwhelming amount of really fantastic ideas swirling around in my brain… just don’t ask me to carry them out, ok.

See, I am great at some stuff, if I do say so myself.

What are you great at…. if you do say so yourself?

Andrea – I would say I am just like you in that department. I can’t decorate at all! I look at magazines and at other peoples houses and see all the wonderful ideas and when I try to do something to my own home… nothing. Or even worse, I attempt to do something and it flops – bigtime! (ie: the time I thought it would be a good idea to paint our bedroom lilac. Yeah, FAIL!)

I love to cook and bake also – I am good at, I love to do it and it makes me and others happy :)

As far as ideas… I am a grand planner. But sadly, thats about as far as it goes. The planning stage. I am working on this though.

i am a fabulous organizer. I love organizing, LOVE it. in fact, i am currently begging my sister to wait to clean out her dresser and closet until we move in, so that i can help, because it would be such darn fun! :)

I make cute babies, if I do say so myself. I think you get to claim that one too! :)

But for real, I think I’m pretty good at creating. Be it sewing, crocheting, knitting, painting, etc… I love to create, and for the most part I’m pretty good at it.

And I think I’m a pretty good problem solver. Which is what makes me good at planning events. I’m enough of a problem solver and a flexible person that I can handle all the inevitable problems that arise. So now, by fluke, I’m the Events & Communications Coordinator for a ministry. Funny how we end up where we’re gifted.

Love your less is more look, personally.

I am good at giving birth quickly and easily, if I do say so myself… but that could all be attributed to red raspberry leaf tea!

I think that looks great…as do other photos of your home. I don’t think you give yourself enough credit! :)

I love your table.. it’s just right! But then again, I’m just like you; “fluffing” just isn’t in my blood, at least not when it comes to “Decorating”. I’m a Cancer; we’re supposed to be homebodies. And maybe that’s the problem. I want my home to be a reflection of ME, not some “perfect design idea”. So, most of what fills my home is meaningful, whether it’s my photography, or interesting items picked up on a trip, or some pottery or a print given to me by a loved one. It may not all match, but it all MEANS something to me, and that counts, in my world. Apart from that, I love to cook. I love to take pictures. And I love to make people happy, whether it’s by creating jewelry, or taking them out to lunch, or wading in the creek with my boy. I’m pretty content with that.
