Decorating advice needed!
February 1, 2010 | Filed Under Decorating Ineptness, Life Stuff, Military Life, New Mexico, Photos
I have these big white walls. Everywhere… well, almost everywhere. And they bother me.
On this particular wall I have finally decided to use one of my rainbow prints to adorn it. I think… if you approve, that is.
Daniel finally took pity on me and cut out a piece of 20×30 cardboard… after watching me hold up the tape measure 87,000 times.
Can you see it? Does it work? Do I need to add anything else or is the photo enough?
On the opposite side of the hallway there is a loooong stretch of white wall. I’ve decided to do a series of 16×24 prints of these four vineyard photos I took this fall.
Are you feeling it? Help? I don’t know what the crap I’m doing…

What kind of framing or matting are you going to use?
I do love your rainbow pic. I remember it from awhile back. The vineyard photos are wonderful.
i think both sound awesome. what sort of framing/matte are you doing?

love the photo idea, especially if you are using simple framing/matting. I think too much “fancy” in that department would take away from the beauty of the photos. (in my opinion)
I’m definitely not an expert at decorating, I can use all the help I can get. Can’t wait to see the blue wall!
I think that will look phenomenal! I feel you on white walls…I can’t handle them (thus my chocolate brown living room/hallway!). Adding a frame will only add to the dimension & distraction from all white walls.
have your photos blown up and mount on foam board with spray glue. Hang on your walls, those walls are a gallery at your finger tips to display your beautiful photos. You can always shop for frames at yard sales or thrift stores, if you are so inclined. You can even put some spot lights with lower watt bulbs so the hall is not so bright, for evenings. Glad to see you are back to your fun homemaking self.
Vineyard photos are nice but I think you need something more vivid on these white walls. Grape photos are quite calm and they could calm down even more your space on the white walls. This is all my opinion, you don’t have to like it. If it was up to me I would put bright, vivid photos on those walls. Since you have mirror on the other wall in the hall, I would go with 4 smaller, same-frame-photos at the place of the cardboard to get the balance and to bring the room up.
you’re doing great. it’s gonna look great. love it!
Good idea Sandie with the foam board. Matting can get very expensive, but foam board accomplishes the same thing.
Girl-
I love, love, the vineyard photos!!!!! show pics of your green wall.. I can’t wait to see it
I had this same problem. The prints will look awesome. To brighten up that hallway throw down some brightly colored rugs. That will break up all the white (with the floors and walls). That should be enough color for the time you have to live there. .
i love your “gallery” walls, and i think your photos are gorgeous works of art! can’t wait to see how you mount them!

I love your walls behind your little girl! (the blue and the green) And your photos are just amazing!! (all of them)
You don’t know me, but I’ve been following for a little bit. I am a stay-at-home mom that homeschools my two eldest children too. =) I found you from a friend…posting your smoothie recipe! We make that a lot and love it! Anyway, I’m sure however you decorate it will look fabulous! In my opinion, I would probably do the four smaller on the wall next to the mirror. Break up the white a little more…. Have fun and can’t wait to see the finished project!!
Love those pictures!

I love your photos and think they would look awesome! I like the other idea of throwing down some area rugs to brighten it up as well.
I’m hoping while my husband is deployed this year to get some painting done – we’ve lived here for 3 years and I still have white walls in all of our main living areas!
Looks great! But I’d hang it a little higher on the wall I think. Can’t wait to see the finished product. And what a great idea in the comments – foam board and glue – I am going to try that.
