Friendly Neighbors….?

The kids and I spent this past long weekend with my in-laws. “Nana”and “Bubba” aka Bob and Conny live in Pennsylvania where they pastor a church together. We really love them.
But the neighbors… Not so much.
It’s not even that we dislike the neighbors as much as we (I) are terrified of them. These neighbors are loud, they smell bad, they’re dirty, and really mean.
Obviously not the cup of sugar or egg borrowing from type.
Meet “Dakota”…
Definitely not going to be borrowing any sugar from this guy.
Dakota is large and in charge. He’s the top dog. The big daddy. He doesn’t mess around. Well…. technically he does as the main sperm donor. While there are many others like him living next door, none of them are quite so… um, MASSIVE.
I can tell you that I nearly peed my pants taking this photo. Yes, it’s true that separating the two of us were large wires with powerful electricity coursing through them. And yes, I was just a small little tiny woman doing nothing to rile up a barn sized bull. But, the thought of what could happen should Dakota have become riled swirled around in my head. Every step I took closer… and closer made me wish I had worn a Depend.
I think the perfume of my fear permeated the air. Though it certainly did nothing to help cover up the manure smell. Ick.
At one point in our informal photoshoot Dakota snorted. Powerfully. Steam shot out.
I am certain I lost a few years of my life in that moment.
Overall, Dakota and I had an uneventful visit. Mr. “I would snap you like a twig” was fairly cooperative and I walked as quietly away from him when I was done as I had walked towards him to start.
There is really no story. And boy, am I ever happy about that.
Sometimes all a kid needs is…

A good pair of jeans…
Lots of room to run…
Time to play in the dirt…
Bare feet…
A pile of pine cones to play make believe with…
And a blueberry muffin to help end the day…
Mama could use a good stiff drink, herself.
The Reasons…

I had to take this photo.
Had.To.
I laugh every time I see it. All I can think of are those silly lawn ornaments of Betty Boop bending over showing off her stuff.
Little Eliza Dove was channeling Betty tonight….
As far as the stroller issue… I have narrowed my decision down to two. The BOB Ironman Duallie or the Baby Jogger Ultimate High Performance Jogger.
I am still weighing the pros and cons of both strollers. Either one would be awesome, I am sure. I just tend to over-think, over-analyze, overdo my choices and decisions. Plus, it’s a lot of money we’re talking about here! And, I just really like making informed decisions, you know?
I really appreciate everyone’s suggestions and thoughts! I looked at and thought about each one. You guys gave me some great info!
I’ll let you know what I decide…
Friday Night Cupcakes
June 26, 2009 | Filed Under At the In-laws, Photos, Recipe | 10 Comments
Made dessert for my mother-in-law’s church meeting tonight. My simple (dairy and egg-free) chocolate oil cake was the cupcake base.
Ground some sugar (in the gorgeous evening sun) for a light and fluffy (the secret is adding a 1/4 cup of whipping cream to the butter/sugar mixture) vanilla buttercream frosting.
Topped the frosted cupcakes with strawberries… added a couple mint leaves on the side. Because everyone knows fancy cupcakes taste better.
Quintessential summer time fare.
